Most laptops have a 15pin cable output which is how you can connect to an LCD or CRT monitor. Connect the laptop to the projector via the 15pin cable, turn on the projector and then the laptop. Some laptops will automatically send a signal to the projector, or you may have to hit a button combo to turn on the output (dell is usually Alt F8 ). Make sure the projector is on the correct input and you should be good to go. Sometimes you have to make sure the projector can output the resolution of the laptop (1024 X 768 is normal but may have to go to 800 x 600).
