A broadband connection would be best. DSL next. Dial up as a last resort.
A wireless router takes your signal from the input and makes it available to a computer either thru a cable or a wireless signal. The wireless card is what you use to receive the signal sent by the wireless router.

A wireless card is what goes into your laptop. It picks up wireless signals created by a wireless router. A wireless router creates wireless signals. The wireless router is hooked up to an Internet source. I would recommend getting high speed Internet from Verizon or your cable company. They use Ethernet cables that hook into the back of your laptop and they are very fast.
