I’m trying to choose a motor for my boat, how fast do you think my boat can go with an 18 hp and only one person? The boat isn’t that deep and around 300 lbs i think. Thanks!

15 – 17 Knots should be about right. It may get 20-22 knots trimmed right out one P.O.P – but with 18 hp you should resist the urge to over prop. The stock prop may be a little too course – 1″ down in pitch should be close.

For a 16 foot boat, I would put at least a 30hp on it. With an 18hp, I agree that 15 knots will probably be max speed, as a comparison my 12 footer has a 25hp yamaha, it does around 25 to 27 knots with two on board.
