I plan on buying a macbook for college soon but I don’t know what the difference is between a mac and a dell. I mean i know the mac is supposed to be the best but what makes it the best exactly? I will appreciate anything you guys have to say even those you own a mac. thanks!

I was a pc guy for years. Windows XP is a great OS. Windows 7 is pretty good. Don’t wast your time with Windows Vista.
The biggest problem with WIndows is they are so susceptible to viruses, spyware, malware, etc and Internet Explorer is the most unsafe browser ever. With a Mac you don’t have to worry about it so much.
On WIndows you need to have anti-virus running and any good anti-virus you will need to pay for. On a mac you don’t need anti-virus.
Windows over time slows down slower and slower and slower untill it gets so unbearable that you just reinstall or stop using it because it is so slow. With a Mac and the way the operating system works you don’t have that problem.
If you like LimeWire then you probably know that a lot of viruses run through LimeWire. LimeWire also works for Mac and because mac isn’t susceptible to viruses you don’t have to worry so much.
Microsoft Office (excel, work, powerpoint) runs on mac too. Microsoft announced that the next Office for mac will include Outlook too.
You can also run a Windows OS on your mac in a virtual machine to. Or you can dual boot your mac. That means you can choose to restart you mac into windows or mac.
Apple Mac makes the Operating system and the Hardware so they are developed to work together.
Microsoft makes Windows and there are a lot of companies that make pc’s so some things don’t work so well together.
I own a few macs and a few windows pc’s. I still use both but Mac is by far the best laptop I have ever used.
You get what you pay for.

the name is the difference. all computers contain the same parts. also most macs have apple os while most dell (pc’s) have windows os.
generally you can get more power (faster speed) for less with an pc than a mac.
some people say macs are built better or look better but most manufactuer pc’s are of the same quality as long as your not getting the cheapest model they offer (entry level but even those arent bad).
really just comes down to os and price.
good dell laptop are xps vostro and studio.

I’ve had experience with both a Mac and windows. I used to use a Dell but now have a macbook. Certain aspects are better, for example:
no need for antivirus software, a built-in webcam, GarageBand (recording/editing music), iMovie (video editing), iPhoto, Dashboard, Trackpad, etc.
However, I do miss Microsoft Office (Word, etc.) and sometimes finding it easier to get stuff for a windows.
If you are getting one I’d recommend getting iWork with it.
Personally, I think the pros outweigh the cons. :)

I am a A+ certified tech, my opinion on Mac is. Mac is over priced, for the same price you are going to spend on the Mac book you can get a 2ghz Quad-core laptop with a one gig video card.
here is the link to the quad-core http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…
Also I would not recommend getting a dell, go with HP or Asus. Every one I know with a Dell always has a problem with their PC.

From what the professors at my school tell me, Macs are more well protected than regular PCs. They are damn near virus immune. We use Macs at my school and I really don’t like them much to be honest. It’s not that they’re crappy or anything. They are just difficult to use. It’s like learning to walk and talk all over. NOTHING like a PC. If you don’t mind that then go for it.
