I am looking to purchase a cheap laptop. Must be NEW (no used ones). I have a solid desktop and do not need a ton of features on my laptop. It’s essentially a secondary computer that will be used for basic things like Word and Checking Email, Checking Facebook/Myspace….and I am not a gamer so I don’t really care about it being able to handle advanced video games.
I’d like to spend under 600 (ideally under 500) total for a quality laptop.
I’m considering: Dell, HP, Acer … open to others. I am hesitant to go with Acer but their reviews (pro and consumer) are really good and they have laptops UNDER 400 …
If I can find a computer that will last a year at good performance and is cheap that would satisfy my goals.
Any advice? Does anyone have an ACER? Any good?

We have had Acer we were not that impressed with it.
We now have sony and toshiba ones and they are good.
Do you have to have it this month?
I would hold off and wait til the day after thanksgiving.
This is how we do it every year.My husband leaves thanksgiving day about 12…and starts camping out at Best Buy with his flyer and list of needs..last yr they had wonderful deals on Sony ..they had one sony laptop that was regularly 900 dollars we looked it up..for 400.
The other one they offered was 600 and it was around 1200 regularly.
it came w more accessories.
You have to start camping out at like 12 oclock thanksgiving day and set up tent and they open store at 6 am…they pass out tickets to the items you want at around 4 am..they usually only have about 10 of the product we live in fla so no snow..
but circuit city also offers some good deals..you can just get more for your money this way..
good luck
